Wonderful Wisteria – Laurien & Olly

It is so lovely to hear kind words from our beautiful couples but when I asked Laurien & Olly if we could blog their wedding Laurien jumped at the chance to have her say. So from the perspective of the bride and groom below is the story of their fantastic day at Fulham Palace.

Finding the perfect wedding venue was quite a lengthy process for us, we couldn’t quite decide exactly what we wanted for our day: wedding abroad, traditional UK wedding (London or countryside?) civil or religious ceremony – even the season!  It was all very overwhelming…  We just knew we wanted something right for us: a beautiful venue with a unique ‘wow’ factor for ourselves and our guests, options for indoor/outdoor festivities, a place to throw the biggest (and best!) party of our lives for everyone we know and love, and a team that could support and guide us through the whole planning process.  In the end, we found perfection right on our doorstep – Fulham Palace.

From start to finish, the wedding planning team (led by Chloe) was fantastic.  We took the venue tour and decided there and then this was the right venue for us.  What really appealed was the potential to have a civil ceremony (for the legal bits) as well as calling upon the wonderful Reverends at local All Saints Church to lead a blessing in the gorgeous on site chapel.  Also the flexibility of the space!  As Chloe explained how our special day could flow from one area of the Palace to another throughout the day (whatever the weather) we were totally sold.  Feeling very confident in the team and the venue being right for us, we agreed there and then to book a wedding date almost four months to the day of our Palace tour! It was a perfect date for us and the family and palace looks sensational with the wonderful Wisteria in full bloom.

Some family and friends thought we’d never manage to get everything planned and organised in that timeframe, but loving a challenge, we wanted to go for it.  A fantastic place to start the process was Fulham Palace’s ‘Little White Book’ of recommended suppliers.  We found the delightful Hannah Martin to look after our floristry, unflappable Effect Event to coordinate on-the-day equipment hire, décor, photobooth and lighting (special mention to Xander for his perfect playlist cues and incredible transformation of the venue from day-to-night during our meal), plus the catering by Bovingdons was just out of this world!  We’ve been to weddings before where sometimes the food just seems like an afterthought, but we wanted our food and drinks to be of a high standard and integral to our day.  Selecting a menu for 100 ‘foodie’ guests (with various added food allergies/requirements) is a lot of pressure for anyone, but working closely with Chloe and Bovingdons, we managed it effortlessly.  Our guests are still raving about the food and drinks! The wines, prosecco, signature cocktails we created and Portobello Brewing Co beers went down a treat too, and the Palace team kept everyone regularly topped up throughout the day.

The rest of our suppliers, we either wanted to use friends or local companies.  Meeting and getting to know everyone we worked with to make our day truly special and personalised was key for us and the atmosphere we wanted to create.  Cakes by Robin (based in Wandsworth) supplied our naked lemon drizzle wedding cake – our florist Hannah decorated it for us with fresh flowers.  Ultimate Classic Car Hire (based in Hampton Court) supplied the vintage Rolls Royce (we had so much fun sitting in all their cars to pick the one we wanted!)  Our photographer Julie Michaelsen (and Associate Photographer Maxine) we found via referral.  We looked through Fulham Palace website of past weddings to find a style we liked, got in touch to find that particular photographer busy, but she recommended her friend Julie, based in Kensington.  We met with Julie and Max to discuss our requirements (and various reservations when it comes to feeling relaxed in front of a camera!) and their ethos and creativity were so in line with what we wanted, we booked them straight away.  Our Friends looked after other key elements: graphic design for our stationery by Jon at Danger Danger Studio, DJ Gino Silano keeping the dancefloor full all evening, and live band Hot Pistol Shrimp to get everyone singing their hearts out.

Once we’d pulled everything (and everyone!) together, what ensued was the most incredible day of our lives – we’ll never forget it.  From start to finish both ourselves and our guests had so much fun and were so well looked after by Chloe and her team.  Everything flowed so seamlessly and was so well coordinated that we could relax and enjoy ourselves and spend as much time celebrating with our guests as possible.  We’re still so incredibly happy with our venue choice and would encourage any couples out there to choose Fulham Palace.  There just isn’t another unique venue like it with so many special features and such brilliant staff to support the planning process and deliver on-the-day celebrations. Our friends and family haven’t stopped talking about what a brilliant day it was; the beautiful venue, friendly staff, gorgeous food and plentiful drinks!  Although of course we’re slightly biased, it was most certainly the best wedding we’ve ever been to, and many of our guests have echoed the same feedback – everyone loved every aspect of the Fulham Palace experience.
